UConn Defeats Illinois In NCAA Final Four Thriller

The University of Connecticut Huskies advanced to the NCAA men's basketball championship game after defeating Illinois 76-64 in Saturday night's Final Four matchup. The game, played at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, drew national attention as UConn continued its dominant tournament run.

Top-seeded UConn (36-3) extended its NCAA Tournament winning streak to 11 games behind 22 points from guard Tristen Newton. Illinois (29-9), making its first Final Four appearance since 2005, struggled against UConn's stifling defense, shooting just 39% from the field.

The victory sets up Monday's championship game against either Purdue or NC State. UConn seeks to become the first back-to-back national champion since Florida in 2006-07. The game trended nationally as fans debated whether this UConn team ranks among the greatest in modern college basketball history.

Illinois star Terrence Shannon Jr. scored 17 points but couldn't overcome UConn's balanced attack. The Huskies' Donovan Clingan added 12 points and 14 rebounds, controlling the paint throughout the contest. Illinois cut the deficit to 5 points early in the second half before UConn pulled away.

Social media erupted with reactions to UConn's continued dominance. The Huskies have won their five tournament games by an average of 25 points. Coach Dan Hurley's team now stands one win away from cementing its place among college basketball's elite programs.

The championship game tips off Monday at 9:20 PM ET on TBS. UConn will face the winner of Saturday's late semifinal between Purdue and NC State. Basketball analysts immediately installed UConn as 6.5-point favorites regardless of opponent.
