Josh Hokit Vs. Curtis Blaydes: UFC Heavyweight Showdown Set For Summer

The UFC confirmed late Friday that rising contender Josh Hokit will face veteran Curtis Blaydes in a pivotal heavyweight bout this summer. The matchup, scheduled for UFC Fight Night on August 15 in Las Vegas, is trending nationwide as fans debate whether Hokit can overcome Blaydes' wrestling dominance.

Blaydes (18-4) enters as the #5 ranked heavyweight following his February knockout of Jailton Almeida. The 33-year-old Chicago native holds the UFC record for most takedowns in heavyweight history. Hokit (12-1), ranked #8, has won four straight fights including a stunning TKO victory over Derrick Lewis last month.

ESPN analysts project this as a classic striker vs. grappler matchup. Hokit's 88% takedown defense will be tested against Blaydes' elite wrestling credentials. The winner likely earns a title shot against reigning champion Tom Aspinall later this year.

UFC President Dana White announced the bout during Friday's post-fight press conference. "This is the fight fans have been asking for," White said. "Two completely different styles that should make for an incredible main event."

Sportsbooks opened with Blaydes as a -150 favorite, though early money has pushed the line to -130. The fight will headline UFC Fight Night at the Apex facility, with tickets going on sale May 1 through Ticketmaster.

The matchup gained viral traction Saturday morning after both fighters exchanged barbs on social media. Hokit tweeted "Time to expose the myth" while Blaydes responded "Bring your lunch pail, rookie." Their interaction has generated over 200,000 engagements across platforms.

Heavyweight contender Ciryl Gane weighed in during a Paris fan event: "Blaydes is the toughest test for Hokit. If he wins this, nobody can deny he deserves the title shot." The fight marks the first time two NCAA Division I wrestlers (Blaydes from Harper College, Hokit from Fresno State) will meet in a UFC main event.

With the heavyweight division in flux following Jon Jones' injury, this summer clash could reshape the title picture. The UFC expects strong PPV numbers given both fighters' growing popularity and the stylistic intrigue of the matchup.
