Coachella 2026 Draws Record Crowds Amid Festival Expansion

Coachella 2026 is on track to break attendance records as the festival expands its footprint in Indio, California. Organizers confirmed over 150,000 daily attendees during the first weekend, with similar numbers expected for Weekend Two starting April 18.

The surge in interest follows major infrastructure upgrades at Empire Polo Club, including new stages and expanded camping areas. Google search trends show "how many people are at Coachella" spiking 320% this week as festivalgoers share crowded scenes on social media.

Indio city officials report the festival has brought an estimated $700 million to the local economy this year. Traffic congestion and long entry lines have drawn complaints, but most attendees say the experience outweighs the logistical challenges.

Headliners The Weeknd, Rihanna, and Tyler, The Creator have driven ticket sales to unprecedented levels. Both general admission and VIP passes sold out within hours when they went on sale last October.

Safety remains a priority with over 500 security personnel and medical staff deployed daily. Riverside County Sheriff's Department reports fewer incidents compared to 2025, attributing this to improved crowd control measures.

The festival's expansion comes as live music events continue rebounding from pandemic-era restrictions. Coachella's success signals strong demand for large-scale festivals, with 90% of attendees traveling from outside Southern California.

Weekend Two will feature identical musical lineups but different art installations and surprise guests. Organizers say they're monitoring weather forecasts closely after unexpected rain affected some sets during Weekend One.

With Coachella Valley temperatures expected to reach 90 degrees this weekend, hydration stations and shaded areas have been doubled from previous years. The festival runs through April 20 before shifting to Stagecoach country music festival later this month.
