Amber Alert Issued For Missing Child In Thomasville, Georgia

An Amber Alert was activated early Sunday morning for a missing 6-year-old child in Thomasville, Georgia, sparking a statewide search. Authorities believe the child was last seen with a non-custodial parent in a gray 2015 Honda Accord with Georgia license plate RJT4567.

The Thomasville Police Department issued the alert just after 3:00 a.m. EDT, urging residents across southern Georgia and northern Florida to be on high alert. The child, identified as Jamal Carter, was reportedly taken from his grandmother's home on East Jackson Street around midnight.

"We have reason to believe this is a parental abduction case with potential danger to the child," said Thomasville Police Chief Tim Watkins during a press briefing Sunday morning. The FBI has joined the investigation due to concerns the suspect may attempt to cross state lines.

Local schools and businesses in Thomasville have shared the Amber Alert details on social media, with many residents organizing search parties. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation confirmed they're tracking multiple leads but declined to provide specifics to avoid compromising the investigation.

This case has gained national attention as it marks the third high-profile child abduction in Georgia this month. The previous two cases resulted in safe recoveries within 48 hours, raising hopes for a similar outcome.

Georgia's Amber Alert system has been activated 14 times so far in 2026, compared to 9 times during the same period last year. State officials attribute the increase to improved reporting protocols rather than an actual rise in abductions.

Anyone with information is urged to call 911 or the Thomasville Police tip line at (229) 227-3245. Authorities warn against approaching the vehicle but advise noting its location if spotted.
